The Czech Republic with Prague as its capital is a landlocked country in the center of Europe.
As the Duchy of Bohemia it played
its role in the history of the region. In the 9th century AD it was part of Great Moravia.
In the Holy Roman Empire it became
a full kingdom and gained in importance.
The Bohemian Revolt in 1618 started the Thirty Year's War,
a vicious and bloody event
that devastated Europe with famine and discease and changed the European political landscape completely.
The Republic of
Czechoslovakia was formed in 1918. After the occupation by Nazi Germany it joined the Warsaw Pact.
After the collapse of the
Iron Curtain in 1989 the two parts decided to split the country in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Presently the Czech Republic
is a wealthy and thriving country within the EU.
