		The city of
Beaune is the center of one of France's famous wine regions, and is called the capital of the
Burgundy Wines.

		It
was the Romans that started the local wine production and later monks and monasteries improved and refined the process over the
ages, creating the supurb Burgundy wine we know today.

Beaune is also known for the
Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune, a hospital for the poor.  Founded in
1443 it has been in use well into the second half of the last century.

The building is now a museum.

		Its outstanding features are the
colorful rooftiles, laid out in intricate pattern.

Since 1851 every November the Hospice hosts a charity wine auction.

		We
visited Beaune on a gray cloudy afternoon in March 2015.
