Runde is one of the many small island on Norway's west coast. It is connected to Remoya Island by
the high one-lane Rundebrua.
People come here for one single reason: the more than 500.000 seabirds in the water, in the
air or on the towering cliffs.
The preferred base for birdwatchers and other tourists is the
Goksoyr Camping.
From here you can hike up the steep Rundeura to watch the
Atlantic Puffins settle for the night.
In summer
this means you will be out on the cliffs well after 10 PM, but luckily the sun also sets late here.
Take a guided boat tour to
cruise under the Fuglefjellet to see scores of Puffins,
Razorbills and
Guillemots foraging in the water, spot eagle nests high
up the rocks and visit the cozy
Northern Gannets colonies.
And right in front of the camping you can spot waders
like
Oystercatchers feeding their always hungry young.
We spent 3 days at a cloudy Runde in July 2014 and saw all the
birds.
the few roads on Runde are mostly single lane so you have to take it easy and give way where needed
here comes the boat for the Fuglefjellet tour.
