The
Old Town of Toledo is crammed with historical buildings and sights that provide a testimony of its long history.
Inside, narrow
and steep streets turn and wind so you certainly need a good map to keep track where you are.
For nice views of the walled city with the
Alcazar atop go south to the Mirador del Valle or east across
the old Roman bridge Puente Alcantara.
Presently the main entrance to town is via the Puerta Bisagra Nueva where you can
admire the statue of emperor Charles V. When the Moors ruled over town they used another Bisagra gate which they called
Bab al-Saqra.
When you stroll down the Calle Miguel Servantes you pass by the
Museo Santa Cruz where the bullet holes remind
of the fierce fighting during the Spanish Civil War.
We visited Toledo in May 2016.
