The grasslands of the nature reserves in Empel and Hedel are sparingly grazed by small herds of cattle that leave most of the
flowering plants intact.
This type of nature management provides a diverse and rich habitat for scores of insects like the tinyGreen leafhopper and Crane flies like the Marsh crane fly and the European crane fly.
The Common pond skater is no messiah but it sure can walk on water.
Noisy insects like Dark bush-cricket,
Great green bush-cricket and Meadow grasshopper make
there presence loud and clear.
Officially, spiders are no insects as they have 8 legs in stead of 6 but most probably the Furrow spider does not mind to be included in this list.
