Holcim and 11th Hour have the best start
just before the start the teams jockey for the best position
seems like everybody uses foils nowadays
from here you have a nice view of Scheveningen Beach
the Noordelijk Havenhoofd is a good place to watch the start
impaled by GUYOT, 11th Hour is swung around
but then disaster strikes, 11th Hour is jibing when GUYOT comes storming in on collision course
Holcim has just rounded the marker and 11th Hour will soon follow suit
unfortunately there are not that much spectators on the beach
VIPs are rushed to the starting line
Ocean Race 2023: Start of leg 7 in the Hague
In 2018 the Volvo Ocean Race finished in the city of the Hague, with Dong Feng as winner, just ahead of MAPFRE

In June 2023 the Hague hosted the race again,  this time for the finish of leg 6 from Aerhus and the start of the final leg 7 to Genova.
In between there was an In-Port race for both the VO65's (winner home favorite Team JAJO) and the IMOCAs (winnerGUYOT).

On June 15th I watched the start of the IMOCAs, on their way to Genova.
There was plenty of sun and good winds, but not that many spectators.
Right from the start, Team Holcim took the lead and rounded all the buoys first before heading out to the Channel and beyond.

But for 11th Hour Racing disaster struck when the boat was impaled by GUYOT.
Luckily there were no casualties and both boats could return suavely to the harbor.

GUYOT retired from the race, but, after repairs, 11th Hour made it to Genova, where the World Sailing International July awarded them 4 points of redress. These points were enough to claim the overall victory in an eventfully Ocean Race 2023.
