the Kröller-Müller Museum
In the 1920s the Kröller-Müller family got very rich. They bought the lands for the hunting estate de Hoge Veluwe and had Berlage design the St Hubertus lodge.

While Anton focused on the business, Helene Kröller-Müller collected art, in particular paintings and drawings by an unknown artist called Vincent van Gogh.
The collection grew and Helene decided
to have a museum built on the Veluwe.

In 1921 construction for a Grand Museum, designed by van de Velde was started.
But by then Anton's business had run out of money and the project was terminated.
In 1935 the Kröller-Müller's donated de Hoge Veluwe and the art collection  to the Dutch government.

In 1938 a slimmed-down Rijksmuseum Kröller-Müller was officially opened and since then expanded and renewed.
In addition to the large collection of van Goghs, work from famous artists like Monet, Seurat, Picasso and Mondriaan is on display.

The museum is also known for the large sculpture garden with works from Rodin and  Henri Moore.

We visited the museum in July 2022.
