the Montmorency waterfall
The impressive
Montmorency Falls are conveniently located just a few kms east of downtown Quebec City, where the Montmorency River
drops a whopping 83 meters over a cliff edge just before merging with the St Lawrence River.
In 1759 French troops stopped a
first British attack on Quebec City right here at the falls. Ruins of British fortifications are still visible.
From a suspension
bridge above the waterfall you have a fantastic view of the area, including the St Lawrence River and the
Ile d'Orleans Bridge.
To reach the suspension bridge you can either climb all the 487 steps of the staircase on the cliff edge or
board the cable car that will carry you to the top.
We visited the impressive Montmorency Falls on a sunny afternoon
in September 2017 and used both the cable car (up) and the staircase down).
