the ferry over the St Lawrence from La Riviere du Loup to St Simeon
One of the ferry crossing over the mighty St Lawrence River is between Rivière-du-Loup on the eastside and Saint-Siméon on the
western shore. The traverse is about 27 km and takes a little more then an hour.
There are only a few crossings per day
so you better check the schedule first.
Making a reservation is not possible, the system is simple: first come, first aboard,
sorry mate, we're full.
In the season you may want to be there well in advance and line up on the parking lot.
That leaves ample
time to take a stroll, check out the little harbour and enjoy the city skyline.
The view may differ because allthough the Gulf
of St Lawrence is 400 km away, Rivière-du-Loup does has a hefty tide of 3 meters.
During the crossing you can
enjoy a meal in the restaurant but better stay on deck as there is sometimes a pot of beluga whales escorting the ferry.
We crossed
the St Lawrence in September 2017 but the belugas did not show up, they musthave taken a day off.
