the coastline near Salvage
Yes, this part of Newfoundland sports
white sandy beaches near
Eastport.
The only difference with Waikiki Beach might be the temperature of the seawater..
Archeological
evidence shows the area was already inhabited 5000 year ago. When Basque sailors showed up early in the 16th century
to fish for cod, they found the
Beothuk people lived here.
European settlement was slow but by 1820
Salvage was
a thriving town and at the end of that century communities had sprung up al over the peninsula. Fishing, farming and
logging were the main source of income.
Today the Eastport Peninsula is a popular tourist destination, not only for its
beaches but also the nearby Terra Nova Park and the extremely scenic coastline between Eastport and Salvage.
In September 2017
we stayed a few days at the very comfortable
Inn at Happy Adventure to explore the park and the peninsula.
