Terra Nova National Park was established in 1957 and encompasses almost 400 km2 of wetlands, ponds, bogs and boreal forrests.
The
park is home to large mammals like moose, caribou and black bear and from the shores or aboard your kayak you may spot whales,
seals and the occasional orca while a bald eagle or osprey soars over your head.
Several camping grounds and camping areas
provide ample opportunity to hike, bike, fish, swim or peddle your canou.
In winter there is enough snow to put your snowshoes or
skis on and enjoy the winter wonderland.
Terra Nova offers several
hiking trails to explore the park's interior. Information
is available at the visitor center at Salton's Brook.
In September 2017 we did a couple of hikes here during an
unusual warm spell. That may be the reason why we did not see any wildlife, except for some unfriendly and scoulding
squirrels.
