but we do have the full attention
these bald eagles have wing injuries and thus cannot fly away
he may be crippled, but boy he knows!
a snowy owl is showing off its intricate feathers
but even an aggressive great horned owl needs a powernap
but we want to see real animals, so head for the boardwalk
and even a stuffed polar bear
there is only one moose, hiding way back near the fence
eagles do not know how to smile on camera
this female is in estrus
Salmonier Nature Park
Salmonier Nature Park was created in 1978 as an environmental education center for the local population.
This remains the primary focus of the center but over time the wildlife rehabilitation function grew and the park attracts also tourists from outside the province.

Inside the visitor center you get info about the park and its projects and they also have some stuffed local animals on display.

A boardwalk leads the visitor along species-specific enclosures where the animals are displayed in their natural environment.

Most of the animals are orphaned or injured and cannot be returned in the wild.
But the park also involves in a breeding program for the Newfoundland marten.

To the east, Salmonier borders on the Avalon Wilderness Reserve and it is not uncommon for wild animals like moose and caribou to stroll into the large undeveloped back area of the park.

In September 2017 we visited the park and came up-close to some of the animals.
