For hundreds of years
Petty Harbour was a thriving fishing hamlet but, like everywhere else on Newfoundland, the place was hit
hard by the 1992
Cod Moratorium.
Hardship struck the small community but luckily for the locals Petty Harbour is
gifted with an extremely beautyful landscape and nowadays tourism is an important source of income.
Good fish restaurants, lodging
and the
Mini Aquarium draw many tourists and the scenic harbour has featured in several TV series and films.
In
summer touroperators will bring you up-close to icebergs and migrating whales and there are many other
things to do.
We strolled along the harbour on a sunny day in September 2017 and enjoyed the serene beauty.
