the dog seems not impressed by the fantastic view
we made it
the top is way up there
the large inlet is the Torrent des Moulettes
looking back, we sure did make progress
entering the Cirque de Morgon
and then its time to return home
a hike to the Pic de Morgon
For all those that spend time at the beach or on the water of Lac de Serre Poncon, the Grand Morgon must be a familiar sight.
Its characteristic blunt peak rises 2324 m above sealevel, 1500 above the lake.

From its top you have a stunning view of the lake and its surroundings. On a clear day you can see the Durance empty its waters in the lake at Embrun and follow the river many kms upstream before it switches behind the mountains.

On the other side, the barrage is visible with behind it the compensation basin from where the Durance is following its normal course further downstream as if there was never a lake at all.

Thehike starts in the forest near l’Abbaye de Boscodon from the 12th century.
Once you clear the forest you enter the Cirque de Morgon from where you just follow the easy trail all the way to the crest..

We climbed the Morgon in July 1987.
