Sandhamn old town
a daytrip from Stockholm to Sandhamn
The
Stockholm Archipelago consists of more than 20.000 islands and islets and extends 60 km into the Baltic Sea.
This
special landscape is created by a post-glacial rebound after the last
Ice Age.
The rebound is still ongoing with ca 3 mm per annum.
A
nice and relaxing way of exploring this very diverse landscape is to take a
canal tour from Stockholm to the pittoresque island Sandhamn
at the eastern edge of the archipelago.
The boat leads you through a very diverse landscape, small canals make way for wide
waters and vice versa.
At the
Strömma Kanal you have to wait for the bridge to be raised.
You pass typical Swedish second
homes, from mansions to very simple cottages, all emanuating a relaxed ambiance.
The harbor of
Sandhamn is pretty touristic
and at lunchtime you may have difficulty finding a seat in a restaurant.
We made this relaxing tour on a beautyful day in July
2016.
at Nacka we pass the God our Father on the Rainbow water spout.

you can easily get lost, there are many of these small passages
on the way back to Stockholm we get company
