Stockholm Palace (Kungliga Slottet) is the official residence of the Swedish monarchy. The palace covers the northern part of
the old town Gamla Stan and sits on the remains of Tre Kronar castle, a13th century castle that burned down in 1696.
The
new palace was ready in 1754 and has not seen major modifications since.
Today the palace is used by the royals
for receptions and other ceremonial purposes. It also holds the offices of the royal family and the Royal Court of Sweden.
A
number of the 1430 rooms and halls are open to the public and you can take an unguided tour to glimpse how the royals lived.
Every
day at 12.15 Royal Guards perform the
Changing of the Guard ceremony, much to the liking of droves of tourists. Finding a nice
spot can be a challenge.
We visited the palace in July 2016.
