The busy
Huang Pu River splitts the city of Shanghai in two parts, connected by several bridges, ferries and tunnels.
Puxi,
the eastern side, may be Shanghai's cultural center but the west side, called
Pudong (west of the Pu river), is China's commercial
powerhouse, concentrated in the Lujiazui district.
Since 1993 Pudong is booming, thanks to its free trade zone, a high tech park and the international
airport with the superfast Maglev train connection.
The economic growth has caused a explosion population , mainly driven
by immigrants from outside Shanghai.
Residents can relax in two parks, the
Century Park in Lujiazui and the Expo Park which was
the location of the 2010 World Expo.
