The mystery is
not so much how the lines were made, but what was the purpose. Theories aplenty, but the fact is nobody knows, and that
makes these lines so mystereous.
Most of the lines are just that, but there are also intricate figures of animals, humans and
trees. And the figures are large, some measure up to a few hundred meters across.
The Nazca desert is extremely dry
so everybody was afraid for major damage when rare flashfloods and mudslides occured in 2007. It turned out that there was more damage
to the modern roads than to the ancent lines. But recently Greenpeace and the Dakar Rally did manage to cause some damage.
