Paracas to Nazca
Traveling the  200+ km on the scenic Pan American Highway (1S)  from Paracas at the Pacific coast to Nazca will present you with wide vistas and interesting places.
A few kms from Paracas the desert starts, including ever changing sand dunes.

Just outside the regional capital Ica there is a little gem called Huacachina Oasis with a small lake surrounded by high sand dunes where you can practice your sand boarding skills and enjoy buggy rides.

Just before reaching the vertile area around the Rio Grande river the road crawls through a rudged mountain ridge, providing nice photo opportunities.

Arriving at the Nazca desert you can visit the Maria Reiche Museum and climb the watchtower along the road to inspect some of the Nazca lines.

We drove from Paracas to Nazca in September 2010.
