just outside Chucuito we pass two Inca heads on each side of the road
working the fields is still done by hand

the sheep cannot walk away, their legs are tied
harvested potatos are spread out to dry in the sun
The drive has impressive panoramas of Lake Titicaca and there
are interesting locations like the fake Uyo fertility temple at Chucuito and the colonial churches at Juli.
When we took this
drive in June 2008 we were most impressed by the unfolding landscape of the dry Altiplano and its people, most of them still
living much the same as their forefathers did.
By the way, taking pictures from within a fast moving van with dirty, darkened
windows and a lively driver is somewhat of a challenge, luckily the sun was prociding ample light.
at Chucuito we visit the badly restored Inca Uyo fertility temple
walking the cows
at Desaguadero we have to cross the border to Bolivia on foot. A new guide is waiting on the other side
