the Hana Highway
The Hana Highway is a famous windy road on Maui's east coast, connecting bustling  Kahului with serene Hana and further continuing to Kipahulu.

The road has a total length of only 104 km, but it takes you a full day back and forth. Not only because of the 600+ curves and 42 one-lane bridges, but because you will most probably make frequent stops to take in the fantastic scenery.

After reaching a quiet and serene Hana, you may want to continue to the secluded Hamoa Beach. Or travel 15 km further east to Oheo Gulch near Kipahulu.

The Hana Highway was built in 1910 and most of the constructions are still original.
An engineering  job well done it seems.
In 2000 the road was designated as Hana Millennium Legacy Trail by then President Bill Clinton.

We have negotiated and survived all  the curves and narrow bridges of the Hana Highway several times since 1993.
In 2003 we broadened our perspective with a helicopter ride that broadly followed the highway along the rugged and lush East coast of Maui.
