Alaska Highway highlights
End of May 2007 we traveled he Alaska Highway aka ALCAN.
Officially the Alaska Highway runs from Dawson Creek in Canada's
British Columbia to Delta Junction in Alaska, covering a total distance of nearly 2300 kms.
We started our
journey in Prince George and continued to Fairbanks, with a detour into the Alaska Panhandle to visit the historic stampeder
towns of Haines and Skagway.
This region is sparsely populated and as in May the tourist season had not started yet, there
was almost no traffic on the road.
So we had ample time to enjoy the great and sometimes spectacular views and make stops for wildlife
sightings.
The few people we met were very friendly, which did contibute to a very relaxed and enjoyable journey.
