at times the passage through the channel seems rather small
the Hurtigruten MS NordNorge is in a hurry and passes us on portside. Norway is far away..
some prefer the hot Jacuzzi but most of us just enjoy the fantastic scenery
the MS NordNorge hides tucked away below towering cliffs
is a rather narrow but deep waterway, located between the Wiencke, Doumer and Anvers islands.
In 1898 Adrien de Gerlache named this winding passage after the German scientist Georg von Neumayer
cruises include a passage through this channel, and for very good reasons.
For when the weather gods cooperate, the view
of snow and glacier covered peaks, towering cliffs and secluded hideaways is simply breathtaking.
In February 2008 we navigated
the Neumayer Channel in a South-North direction, initially with a crisp blue sky and fair winds.
An ideal setting for enjoying the steady
flow of stunning panoramas and postcard-like views indeed.
In the afternoon the weather quickly changed for the worse and in the
evening we even had some snow on the deck.
All in all an unforgettable day.

the outside views may be stunning, but this fellow has other priorities
short pants and T?, it's freezing cold in the strong headwind
our captain is wary of the icebergs that drift freely in the channel
these are icebergs in the making
later in the evening we have snow on the deck
there is hot soup for the cold and hungry
