Trinity College
Trinity College is Ireland's oldest university and is considered to be one of Europe's most prestigious and elite academic institutions.

Founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I, Trinity College is one of the seven ancient universities of the British Isles, a very select group that includes Oxford and Cambridge.

As part of the Protestant Ascendancy the university was off-limits for Catholics and it was not until 1970 before all religious restrictions from both sides were lifted.
Since 1904 women are also welcome.

Trinity College is best known for its library of more than 6 million books, of which the Book of Kells is the most famous.
The library's Long Room is stacked with 200.000 of the oldest manuscripts and holds an original copy of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic. Also on display here is Brian Baru's Harp, the national symbol of Ireland.

Presently Trinity College is home to some 17.000 students who have to share the premises with the more than 2 million visitors per year.

We visited Trinity College in June 2016.
