the Perkins Memorial Tower on top of Bear Mountain
Bear Mountain State Park
Bear Mountain State Park is a park located at the west bank of the Hudson River.
It includes the 400 m high Bear Mountain with on its top the Perkins Memorial Tower from where you can see Manhattan.

Its strategic location at the Hudson River triggered military action in the American Revolution at Fort Montgomery and Stony Point.

It was also here that the first segment of the 3500 km long  Appalachian Trail was opened in 1923.

You can hike, bike, fish, boat or swim and in wintertime there are ski trails and even an ice rink for skating. And for the kids there is a nostalgic merry-go-round.

But you can also install yourself on a high ridge and just enjoy the landscape. That is what we did on a gorgeous day in February 2000 when Mother nature was out in full color.
Unfortunately I only carried a cheap camera and that shows.
