the Karel Appel Exhibition at the Gemeentemuseum in Den Haag
The
Municipal Museum of The Hague was build to a design of the Dutch architect
Berlage and opened its doors to the
public in 1935.
The museum is famous for its collection of modern art, in particular the world's largest collection of work from
Piet
Mondrian with as masterpiece the unfinished
Victory Boogie-Woogie.
Paintings from Picasso, Monet, Degas and Toorop are also
on display.
The Print Room shows prints and posters from the first half of the 20th century.
In 2016 the museum featured a
major exhibition of work of
Karel Appel with paintings, sculptures and drawings of this prolific Dutch artist.
We
visited the Appel exhibition in February 2016 and also checked out Mondriaan's Victory Boogie-Woogie.
