Suocui Bridge with in the background the Deyue Pavilion
Deyue Pavilion sits on a small island and can be reached via a shiny white footbridge
there are several picturesque views like this one
this pavilion is dedicated to the Dongba culture
Suocui Bridge gets its name from the five "holes in the bridge
we wait a the restaurant for the rain to stop
on our way to the Dongba pavilion we pass this nice post
you can hike up Elephant Hill for a nice overview of the park
a woman in Naxi dress shows the weaving technique while her dog rests in a basket
The gardens of the park are draped
around the famous Heilongtan, or
Black Dragon Pool.
On clear days the nearby
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain reflects in
the clear water, supposedly creating one of China's finest views. The meltwater from this mountain range actually feeds the pool. Since
2010 the pool is an official a water conservation area and kept full of water.
The pool and the nearby Longshen temple
were build in 1737 in the second year of the reign of Qing Emperor
Qian Long .
From the pool rises the three-leveled
Deyue Pavilion, built in 1847 and accessible by the white marble Suocui Bridge.
Set in the lush gardens around the pool
are a series of nice pavilions, one of them dedicated to the Dongba culture.
We visited the park on a rainy day in
August 2005, so we did not see any of the mountains, but we did very much enjoy this nice and tranquil place..
we enter the park through the south gate
A nice overview of the pool, but clouds block the view of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
for a small fee this monkey will dance in your hand
