the fish smokery at the beach
Vitt lies in a gully of the cliff and is accessed by the Veilchentreppe
the Kap Arkona cliff looms in the distance
here comes the mighty Kap Arkona Bahn
the pier is pretty basic
Tucked away below the eastcoast cliffs at Kap Arkona is the pittoresque fishing hamlet of
Vitt, a place for trade and fish
processing for at least a thousand years.
And that tradition continues with a small fish smokery at the beach where
you can taste the famous Vitter Raucherfish.
From the beach you also have a good side view of the ramparts of the old slavic
Jaromarsburg site on Kap Arkona.
There is a 1 km walking trail from the cape to Vitt. Once you are done
with the view and the Raucherfisch you can climb the cliff again and take the scenic
Kap Arkona Bahn for transport back
to the parkinglot.
We visited Vitt in September 2015.
on the trail from Kap Arkona to Vitt you pass the old Peilturm
close to Vitt there is a lookout over the Baltic Sea with the large wooden Sehvogel
part of the Vitt fleet
once back on the cliff you have a nice view of the two lighthouses of Kap Arkona
