Königsstuhl
The Königsstuhl is a famous chalk cliff in the Jasmund National Park.
It stands 118 meters tall at the shore of eastern Rugen.
Weather permitting the observatory on its top provides a nice view over the Baltic Sea.
Closeby is another large cliff called the Victoria-Sicht, in honor of a visit in 1865 of Victoria, then crownprincess and later the mother of Wilhelm II, the last German Emperor.

The origins of the name Königsstuhl are lost in the mist of time, but legend has it that in the old times a newly elected king would climb the cliff and sit on a chair on its top.

Nowadays a bus will bring you from the Hagen parkinglot to the visitor center, from where it is a short walk to the cliff.
Unfortunately the chair is missing.....

Chalk is a brittle material and the cliffs are prone to erosion, sometimes large chunks fall of the cliffs.

We stood on top of the Königsstuhl in September 2015.
