the Nenana river

we turn south on the Parks Highway, and have to stop for a moose crossing the road for better pastures

Denali highway
Before the George Parks Highway was build in 1971 the main entry to the Denali National Park was the Denali Highway, a gravel road to Paxson at the Richardson Hwy.

Nowadays it is a very quiet, not well maintained road that is closed in winter.
Since there is hardly any traffic you have ample time to enjoy the scenic views and look out for wildlife.

Approaching the George Parks Highway, and weather permitting, you will have a splendid panorama of the snow covered mountains of the Alaska Range. You might even spot Mount Denali.

In June 2007 we travelled the Denali Highway, enjoyed the views and spotted a moose with her calf, a couple of foxes, a porcupine and an eagle.
