After
the conquest of the Inca Empire the conquistadors spread out to build cities to consolidate their power, and so, in 1540, the
city Villa de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora del Valle Hermoso de Arequipa was founded.
For obvious reason this was later changed
to
Arequipa.
Arequipa's skyline
is dominated by the imposing
Misti stratovolcano that peaks at almost 6000 meters.
Just outside town you can visit Viego
Molino de Ayer, an old water mill with some huge wine vessels. (empty...)
