Raqchi
Raqchi was an  Inca site along the road from Cusco to Puno. It probably functioned as a military checkpoint on this important road.
The complex consists of the huge Temple of
Wiracotcha,
a few blocks for administrative and  troop living quarters, an artificial lagoon with running water and 156 circular storage rooms called cullqas.

The stone wall surrounding the place also points to military roots..
The victorious Spanish troops looted and then destroyed the place in 1540.

We visited Raqchi in June 2008 on our way from Cusco to Puno.
