Lima has been the capital of Peru since its founding by Pizarro in 1535. It has a lot of historical buildings and sites, Spanish style.
Most of the sightseeing is around the Plaza Major with the inevitable cathedral and the government palace.
For a glimpse of the pre-colonial period you have to head for a museum, like the
museum of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru. Here you will find fine Inca and pre-Inca artifacts, plus the impressive Hugo Cohen collection
of gold and silverware.
Miraflores is an upscale district with fine houses, shops, private schools and art galleries. From the
Larcomar shopping center you have a fantastic view of the Pacific coastline.
We visited Lima in May 2008 and came back in September
2010.
