the falls generate huge waterplumes. Luckely for us the wind blows the other way
you can actually get very close to the falls
the Dettifoss is 100 meters wide and has a drop of nearly 50 meters
a look downstream the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river
but we hit the trail
small flowers cling to a boulder
a few km downstream roars the Hafralgirsfoss
you can sit down down and enjoy the view
most visitors arrive by car, but some prefer the bike
the falls can be accessed from both sides of the river. But those on the other side get wet
after that huge drop the water continues towards the next appointment: the Hafragilsfoss
the Dettifoss waterfall
With a width of 100 meters and a drop of 50 meters the Dettifoss in the river Jökulsá á Fjöllum is  Iceland's most famous  and Europe's most powerful waterfall with an average flow of  some 200 m3 / sec.
The river is fed by the mighty Vatnajokull Glacier to the south that covers 8% of Iceland.

Located in the Vatnajökull National Park the falls can be accessed from both sides of the river, but If yo want to come up-close to the falls take the Holsfjallavegur dirtroad(864) on the eastside of the river.

From the parking lot a trail will bring you right to the roaring waters and you can see visitors on the other side getting soaked in a huge waterplume.
