The active geothermal field west of the Námafjall mountain and east of Reykjahild is the place where since 1969 a small geothermal powerplant deliveres 3 MW of electrical power and the steam for the local district heating system. It also supplies the Myvatn nature baths.

Plans to upgrade the plant to 90 MW have generated considerable reistance. People fear that the plant and powerlines will spoil the environment of Lake Myvatn.
