Casa Carbonell is the most prominent building along the explanada and dates from the 1920's
the city hall, at New Year's Eve thousands count down the clock and watch the fireworks
at the Plaza Santisima Paz you can eat and enjoy modern day troubadors
in Alicante's marina Icarus rises from the waters carrying a surfboard
the Explanada de Espaņa was built with 6.6 million little tiles
houses in the hill along the south flanks of mount Benecantil
Over time Alicante's old town has fully covered the slope of a hill that rises from the port area south
of Mount Benacantil.
In the Semana Santa
several processions a day negotiate the old town's narrow and winding streets, a must see.
Alicante's baroque
City Hall with
the two characteristic towers had to be rebuild after the French bombarded the city in the early 1700's.
The
Explanada
de Espaņa with its wavely and colored mosaic floor is a popular place to stroll along the harbour front.
And of course Alicante
has its own beach,
El Postiguet, sitting at the foot of Mount Benacantil with the Santa Barbara castle perched on top.
From the
castle's keep you have a perfect overview of Alicante and the harbour.
