and enjoy the local wildlife
Laguna de Cejar
Some 20 kilometers south of San Pedro de Atacama lies the Laguna Cejar, a sinkhole and hot-spring in the Salar de Atacama. Actually there are three small interconnected lagoons here.

The water has a very high salt content and in summer baders love floating lazily in the turquoise waters, while enjoying the mountain sky-line.
After the dip you better use the fresh water showers to remove that salty crust from your body.
In wintertime, for some reason, most visitors keep their clothes on, skip the dip and instead prefer a stroll along the lagoons, enjoying the panorama of now snowy mountains.

There is few wildlife here except for some resident ducks and the occasional Flamingo.

In August 2011 we too skipped the dip but did spent a few relaxed hours at the beautiful and tranquil Laguna de Cejar.
