Admiralty Bay
Admiralty Bay is an large inlet with three fjords in the southern part of King George Island and was put on the map by George Powell, an English sealer who explored the South Shetland Islands in 1822.

Several research stations are located here with two of them having a year-round occupancy.

Parts of the lands around the bay are designated  Important Birdlife Area to protect breeding colonies for penguins, petrels and skuas. Wendell and Southern elephant seals also breed here.

In summer scientists use the US operated Copacabana Field Camp as base to study Adelie and Gentoo penguins in the nearby breeding colonies.

In February 2008 the Star Princess sailed into the majestic Admiralty Bay.
With excellent weather we had ample time to enjoy  the great panoramas.

Scientists from Polish Arctowski Base came on board to give a brief lecture on their work out there. As a reward they feasted on the Star Princess's copious buffet.
